BACKGROUND: Conventional root canal therapy effectively eliminates infection but does not restore living pulp tissue. Dental pulp regeneration aims to regenerate functional pulp tissue capable of maintaining tooth vitality.
METHODS: The authors reviewed advances in regenerative endodontics, including stem cell transplantation, cell homing strategies, scaffold technologies, and growth factor-based therapies.
RESULTS: Studies demonstrated that dental pulp stem cells can contribute to vascularized pulp-like tissue formation, dentin regeneration, and restoration of pulp vitality. Advances in tissue engineering have significantly improved regenerative outcomes.
CONCLUSIONS: This review showed that dental pulp stem cells remain central to future regenerative endodontic therapies and may transform the treatment of pulp injuries and disease.
