Study Population: Adults aged 18–65 years diagnosed with chronic periodontitis.
BACKGROUND:Chronic periodontitis is a common inflammatory disease that progressively destroys the supporting tissues of the teeth, including the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Conventional periodontal therapies can slow disease progression but often cannot fully regenerate lost tissue. Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) possess regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties that may promote the regeneration of both soft and hard periodontal tissues.
METHODS:This Phase II clinical trial is evaluating different administration protocols of human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells (DPSCs) in patients with chronic periodontitis. Participants receive DPSC therapy according to the study protocol and are monitored for periodontal tissue regeneration, clinical attachment level, probing depth, alveolar bone healing, and treatment safety. Researchers are also analyzing changes in inflammatory biomarkers present in gingival crevicular fluid to better understand the regenerative mechanisms of DPSC therapy.
RESULTS:The clinical trial is currently recruiting participants, and final efficacy results have not yet been reported. Researchers aim to determine the optimal method of DPSC administration while evaluating improvements in periodontal regeneration, tissue healing, and overall clinical outcomes compared with baseline measurements.
CONCLUSIONS:This Phase II clinical trial investigates whether dental pulp stem cells can safely regenerate periodontal tissues damaged by chronic periodontitis. If successful, the findings could establish DPSC therapy as a minimally invasive regenerative treatment capable of restoring both soft and hard tissues affected by periodontal disease.
